Surfing Books are one of the most essential tools to introduce a child to the magic of surfing. At their age, children are attracted to colors and motions. Thus children who have either accompanied their parents to a surfing trip or watched the sport of surfing on television are naturally attracted to this activity.

In order to step-up their interest in this activity, it is best to gift children with surfing books that are written specially according to their needs. These books contain all the basic information relating to the ocean and surfing in the form of stories and cartoons, thus making it easily comprehendible for them. These children books are an ideal gift to children whose parents are themselves enthusiastic about surfing.

One of the main advantages of these kids books is that they impart knowledge about the ocean in a story and picture format. Ocean is a fascinating place for kids, but what they are not aware of is the fact that it can turn dangerous the moment they become careless. Thus having the basic knowledge bout the ocean and its dangers enables children to use care and precaution while enjoying the ocean.

Harry the bear is one cartoon character that has become quite famous through these children books. Harry the bear is a fictional character who can surf and skateboard. Different editions of his books depict him being involved in some situation and the way he gets out of that situation using his logical and systematic thinking. Thus, Harry the bear has captured the imagination of numerous children all over the world. He has imparted basic safety techniques to follow while playing in the ocean, thus enabling children to act in a safe manner.

Apart from informing children about ocean safety, these kids books also conveys messages regarding friendship, team building, mutual respect, etc thus assisting in the overall growth of the child.

It is due to the above mentioned reasons why these surfing books have become a popular gift to children. Not only children, even the parents enjoy reading these books due to their simple and precise nature. Reading these books together creates greater bonding between parents and children and enables them to go surfing together. These children books are easily available at major book shops. They are even available with numerous online book stores, who can deliver these books to your doorsteps, thus making it easy and convenient for you to enjoy them.

Reading is an important habit that needs to be developed in children. It is necessary for survival in today’s stiff competition. It helps the kids in learning new subjects and finding helpful information they want to know. In spite of the present era of computers, the books have their own significance. Many people believe that the magic of printed words is no more, but the fact is that internet has made reading more popular these days.

It is true that more the children read, the better they become at reading. There are many enjoyable things to read which give them the opportunity to have fun while reading. Kids find reading children’s books a pleasurable activity since such literatures give them a lot of entertaining tales and interesting information. These also help them in enhancing their language skills, vocabulary power and their ability to express themselves.

Children Books bring up new worlds and enrich lives of kids. These give children the opportunity to learn about people and places from different parts of the world. They can expand their accumulated knowledge of mankind by reading these books. The novels that broaden children’s imagination encourage teens to experiment and test new ideas. In fact, these literatures enhance the critical thinking of kids and give them the liberty to think about various topics such as the concepts of cause & effect, problem solving, logical conclusions, etc. Now, the most important thing that comes to the mind is how to find the best books for the children. The following points can be helpful for finding such items.

* The easiest way is to go for the books you loved as a child. Thinking like a child, one can know the exact requirements of her or his kids.

* The idea of purchasing the favorite books of trusted friends and family members is also not bad. Your friends and colleagues can suggest some great ideas that might be helpful in searching the best children’s books.

* The award-winning literatures can be availed because such items are appreciated by a large number of readers.

* Going for the classic children’s literatures and the best reviewed books can also be helpful.

* Many online websites offer the list of best selling literatures for the kids. One can easily find his or her favourite books there.

In most of the cases, kids start reading the course books. However, there are many kinds of such literatures that come with an innovative way of writing. The pocket sized “board books” come in themed collections. Such items are based on a number of themes which excite the kids. Another popular style of children’s literature is the simple picture book. These contain different pictures that give some messages. As kids are not very careful for their belongings, the physical construction of such books is designed to resist the rough handling of children.

The best children’s books can be found on the online shopping portals. These websites offer the customers many attractive schemes and deals. One can also find free gifts, incentives and cashback offers on these online marketplaces. The online shoppers should look for the authentic and reliable sites for purchasing any items. A number of shopping portals are popular in the UK markets. These are Abebooks, Waterstones, Penguin.uk, etc. Abebooks offers a large collection of more than 13,500 booksellers that have introduced their books on its portal. Many value-added benefits are provided by the other websites so that the customers could get the most astonishing shopping experience.

Some of the best known children’s books are the Harry Potter series, Disney High School Musical, KS2 Science, Heart to Heart, etc. These literatures have been written by the reputed authors in the world. On the whole, it is an open secret that the children’s literature business is growing at a rapid speed in the UK and the arrival of internet has benefited this industry.

Do you think you would like to self-publish a children’s book, but you are afraid of being out hundreds of dollars and having your garage full of boxes of books? In theory, print-on-demand publishing may be just what you have been waiting for. You can buy as few or as many copies as you wish, and although the cost per copy is high compared to large print runs, it is not prohibitive.

To see whether the technology is ready yet, I published a book at Lulu.com. These are my experiences. I started with the contents for a book. I’ve been publishing on e-zine for over four years on how to be witty, so I just used the articles for the contents. I was able to format the articles into a book in about one day’s work. It actually took me a week, because I was creating screen capture videos of the process to produce a CD to show my friends how to do it.

After the one day’s worth of work, it took me a week to receive my copy — I only had to buy one copy. Unlike with traditional printers, I am not out hundreds of dollars, and I don’t have my condo filled with cartons of books. The single copy of the 108 page 6 x 9″ book cost me $6.66 to print. If I include shipping, it cost $10.65 overall. The book is nicely bound and has a pleasant cover design that I neither had to pay a designer for nor create myself.

Lulu offers a wide choice of book formats. My choice of 6 x 9 was arbitrary. Lulu also offers a choice among many attractive covers. I used OpenOffice Writer along with Lulu’s page of suggestions to format the book. They offer a template, but strangely, their advice on how to lay out the book is not reflected in the paragraph styles in the template file. I do, of course, have some complaints. When the book arrived it did not have the title and author printed on the spine. I found no documentation on the number of pages required for the title to appear. I have since then reformatted the book and added a little material. When I uploaded 120 pages, I did get the title and author on the spine. Somewhere 108 and 120 pages is the boundary. It would be nice to have been told where it is.

The cover wizard takes a long time to load. It also has a tendency to lose formatting information. When I put text on the back cover, choosing different font sizes for different paragraphs, the cover wizard would frequently lose this formatting when I navigated off the page to take a look at the layout. I repeatedly had to reformat. Also, when typing text on the cover, it is difficult to see what you have typed without magnifying the cover size, but the magnification goes away as soon as you type any more characters — terribly annoying.

Information on how to sell the book through Lulu and other sales venues is not perfectly clear. I have a suspicion that some vestigial descriptions are still online of options that are no longer in use. It may be too easy to put the book up for sale at Amazon and bookstores. There are two problems with it being so easy. The first is that if you just spontaneously do it, you lose the chance to have a product launch. A great deal of the sales of a book come from the product launch. In particular, reviewers want to get early copies so that they are only reviewing books that are coming out soon, not books that have been out for a year. Second, you’re tempted to just get an ISBN from Lulu. Unfortunately ISBNs include within them the identifying number of the publisher. If you wish to move your book to another printer, you won’t be would take the number with you. Anybody who finds a copy of your book will go to Lulu, if they want to buy more of them. There is a lot to know about publishing. Read Dan Poynter’s Self-Publishing Manual before you put your book up for sale — except perhaps by direct access.

My experience with Lulu has been positive thus far. There are a great many people who want to get a book out and are stymied by their inability to find an agent and interest a major publisher. They are stymied by the thought of having to spend hundreds of dollars and ending up with a garage full of boxes of books if they self-publish. Lulu lets you get a high-quality book in whatever numbers you need quickly and cheaply. Most people will find Lulu and the other print-on-demand publishers to be just what they need

By Theodore Odeluga (www.ebizdynamix.com)

Blogs are all the rage these days and they’ve added an extra dimension to the distractions we can enjoy online. Appropriately because everyone seems to be writing one, they’re as interesting and vast in their variety as people are all over the planet. However, as a result, getting people to notice, let alone read your blog is becoming increasingly difficult. I suggest then that the ways of promoting your blog should be as interesting and unusual as people are.

The rest of this article is going to describe some ideas which you may think are inspired, ridiculous (and so crazy they just might work) and some which are actually quite sensible. At the very least, they may well inspire a few ‘wild and whacky’ ideas of your own.

Busking

If you’re a musician, I’m willing to wager you’ve already thought of this one. But how about writing a song telling the story of your blog then singing about it? If you performed every day for a month across the London Underground tube network, shopping centres and large public spaces like Leicester Square, not only would you earn a nice few quid but people would be thinking of your blogs URL as they quietly hummed your infectious tune.

If you’re not a musician, you could always ask a musical friend to write a song about your blog and perform it (they would get to keep the royalties of course –fairs fair innit?).

Organise a Student Union debate

Studying at college or university? Student Union clubs offer an excellent way to express your opinion and tell other people about yourself. Why not organise a Student Union debate on the subject of your blog (that is, not the blog itself but the stuff it rants and raves about) –and then incorporate the blogs address into the discussion? You could offer to continue the debate online and of course provide the URL where other passionate discourse could take place.

Visit writers workshops

You’ve probably heard about such events advertised in listings magazines and newspapers. Many take place in London and are staged up and down urban centres all over the country. They usually take place in a pub or at a community centre or similar venue where professional, semi-professional and amateur writers go to recite and discuss their work. You’re a writer if you’re a blogger and there’s no reason why you can’t go to one of these events in your capacity as a blog author and talk about your work as well as the blog itself. Again you could invite further discussion online by supplying the blogs website address.

Wear your web address on a T shirt

This is a fairly obvious one and not particularly new but then the best ideas are tried, tested and used again. Better than simply wearing the URL yourself, you could get a number of T shirts printed up for all your friends and family to wear. Another extension of this would be to get into a deal with a local fashion store (or even a chain of fashion stores) to sell the T shirt. Perhaps you could enter into a reciprocal advertising arrangement where you promote their store or stores at your blog.

Organise pub quizzes for charity

You could try this as a good deed as well as a bit of self promotion. Stage a pub quiz on the subject of your blog for charity. Every time someone wins perhaps you could give them one of the above T shirts – or you could just buy them a drink. All of the proceeds would go to your favourite charity of course but the benefit for you would be to spread a little publicity about that special section on the web containing writing on your favourite subject. On the subject of talking about yourself in pubs, why not get some specially printed beer mats? You could give them away for free to the landlord of your local. Again, the trade off would be a little money spent but the up side would be that you also get people to know about your blog.

Another similar idea would be to print a load of mouse mats and give them away to your local internet café or a bunch of customised coffee mugs and donate them to your favourite café – all proudly displaying your blogs web address.

Put your URL on cards in phone boxes

Hey, if it works for certain types of professional, it could work for you. I guess you’d need to demonstrate a little discretion here. Do this in too small a number and it won’t generate much interest but do it too much and the telecommunications company that owns the telephone box might get a little irritated. The best thing to do would be to distribute a fair number of cards (but not too many) and spread their distribution out across a wide area. This would have the twin advantage of not making your cards too conspicuous while at the same time still spreading awareness of your blog (by phone so to speak) much further.

Spreading your blog by mobile

As I mentioned, there’s potential in promoting yourself by landline. But there’s not half as much potential as there is in promoting yourself by mobile. Using the not so humble mobile to Big Up your blog would be conspicuous by it’s absence if I didn’t mention it. Here’s a quick and fun idea. Why not create some mobile phone wallpaper featuring your blogs website address and text it to a bunch of random numbers? True, some poor hapless stranger would receive this baffling text message and go “huh?” but the other recipients might look at it and think it’s a laugh and be curious enough to see what all the fuss is about to do with this website address. Or you could just get a bunch of public mobile numbers and send messages to them.

Mobile phones again – Flash mobs

This is a crazy idea which could only have come about in the 21st century. Why not stage a flash mob? You could again utilise texting to spread the message by sending it to random or listed numbers and ask the recipient to pass it on. In the message you’d provide a time, date and location for some silly random event to take place (how about a mass pillow fight in a crowded public space – perhaps pillows printed all over with Your Name.com)? Similarly you could get on to Twitter and tell your friends to spread the word.

Wear your URL all over your car

This is another obvious one. If you felt so inclined you could permanently pimp your ride with the customised logo of your websites URL. Similarly you could put on some temporary stickers and drive all over town with your in-car stereo blaring out that song your friend wrote. Or you could just do a spoof political canvass by car telling everyone by loudspeaker to ‘vote for your blog’.

Speakers Corner

If you’ve got the conviction (and the balls) why not do a ‘live’ version of your blog at Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park, London? Look at it this way –if the abuse and heckling you received was especially severe, it would mean that someone’s interested in your blog (and of course they’d be more likely to get online and visit it when they arrived home – well, they would if you hadn’t upset them too much).

Wear a sandwich board

Okay, this is a bit 20th century but again, like many of the best ideas, it’s tried and tested. Wear a sandwich board (or carry around a placard like you’re on a demonstration (better still, do something cheeky and turn up at a real demo carrying not the slogan of the protest – but your URL)) and walk around town with it. You could maybe shout out something at regular intervals like ‘The End of The World Is Nigh Unless You Visit Me At So And So.Com!’ Again, everyone will think you’re crazy but that’s not the point – if everyone can’t ignore you, it means you’ve got their attention – which means they’ll remember the website address of your blog.

Give out CD’s containing information about your blog

A more staid version of the above might be to simply stand in the town / city centre and distribute free CD’s. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you could even set up a stall with a TV screen (sound turned on loud) showing a video on constant rotation promoting your blog as you give out the discs. You wouldn’t have to appear in the video, indeed you could make it quite snazzy using good editing software, adding special effects etc. You could similarly place the video on YouTube and direct people to it (maybe you could even create a different video each week, uploading different versions again and again to continue generating interest with the added novelty).

Place book marks featuring your URL in the library

This is another cheeky one but it would be so much fun to do. Why not visit your local library (or a number of libraries) and surreptitiously place specially printed bookmarks featuring your blogs web page address at the back of each book, then leave it there? You could single out books on the same subject as your blog and of course avoid being caught by pretending you’re browsing through the book first (if you did get caught you could always claim that you’re conducting some clandestine love affair with a fellow book worm by leaving messages in various publications (hey, it might work, it sounds silly enough to be true)).

Put posters featuring your URL in bookshop windows

Again, you’ve had the whacky idea (above) and this is the sensible version (I try to please everyone). Similar to the fashion store and T shirt idea, you could enter into a reciprocal advertising deal with a local independent bookshop (it’s better if it’s an independent one because larger bookstores which are part of chains might not go for it or would be overly bureaucratic) and place posters in the window of the store advertising your URL. This could work for two reasons. One, usually bookstores don’t attract or receive any kind of advertising in their windows –so something in the interest of a small business like this might sway them in your favour. Two, the kind of educated, opinionated people you want to visit your blog are also the types who visit bookstores.

Create a fake news website

You may have done something like this already with your existing blog or are perhaps thinking about it. Why not use the free web space provided by your ISP (usually Internet Service Providers provide free web space to their customers) to set up a quick, cheap (but convincing) news website on the subject of your blog where every story is about your blog (and of course has a link to it)? You could tell everyone about a really scary, fascinating, funny, infuriating (delete according to preference) story you read online at this news website (if they don’t know you’re the author of the blog, chances are they’ll visit as a neutral and curious observer – or you could just try to make out you’re really upset by some ‘big news network’ that misrepresented you). Finally, you could simply be boring and set up a bunch of reciprocal links between your blog and other websites – but where’s the fun in that?

Either way, whether you’ve chosen to be sensible, wild and whacky or somewhere in between, I hope you’ve found something above which might be useful. Or at least entertaining enough to inspire you to do something you’ve never done before. Now go forth and bloggify and may the internet gods be with you (and buy the rights to your video game). I salute your brave efforts and all the best you.

The “New Roman Style” a fascinating itinerary to discover the hidden corners of Rome, from fashion to design, art and cuisine, here are all the most in places in the capital.

Rome the Eternal City? Of course, if you think of all the treasures and artistic masterpieces in the capital that represent human civilization from ancient Roman times, through the Renaissance and Baroque. But Rome is also much more than this. In recent years it has become an open-air artistic and cultural “workshop”. Alongside its historic monuments, the feature that distinguishes it around the globe, there are initiatives that look to the present and the future, just as in London, Paris and New York. There are flourishing modern art galleries, avant-garde buildings, trendy shops and night spots that go in for designer décor and minimal chic, while the oriental and ethnic styles hold sway in nearly all the neighbourhoods. In other words, you don’t need to go abroad to find out what is all the rage, because Rome has become a world leader in fashion, art and design.

In the spirit of Zen, with a minimalist look and a desire to seek out the trendiest places in the city, taste oriental dishes or enjoy the ritual of a fashionable aperitif follow our itinerary of the latest and most exotic spots in the capital.

A shop that has become one of the most popular in the city opened some time ago right next door to the Hotel dei Piranesi. It is a boutique, a feng shui furnishings centre, a florist’s, a café, a restaurant, an art gallery, a bookshop, a beauty salon, in a nutshell it is a concept store called Tad. In the very heart of Rome this is the perfect place to begin your day, it is a modular space of 1000 square metres, streamlined and decorated with gaudy colours, housing a varied collection of items for the home and for personal use. Give yourself a new look with the help of an expert stylist, buy a shantung garment and enjoy a coffee with an Arabic aroma to start the day with renewed energy. You’ll find the most original things with a particular focus on oriental trends (Tad, Via del Babuino, 155a Tel. 06 32669511).

Not far away, in Via Vittoria, there is another temple of oriental culture. It is called Thè Verde (Via Vittoria, 23 Tel. 06 32110174) after the green tea that is so popular in China and Japan. Entering this small shop is like plunging into a Zen atmosphere. Everything is arranged with the utmost care in a way that reminds you of the rules of feng shui. Soft lighting, large brickwork shelves and small niches enhance the display of very special objects that include, for example, Chinese vases, Middle-Eastern necklaces, silk and cashmere shawls, but above all tea services and the ingredients for the tea drinking ritual. Continuing down the same street, at number 55 you come to a young designer’s small jewellery shop Cristina Di Stefano Creazioni Orafe (Tel. 06 6791546). This very minimal shop has just opened and displays and sells fascinating designer jewellery in gold and silver with gemstones and precious stones in all shapes and colours. It is the ideal place if you’re looking for a special gift for a trendy spirited person who will be sure of wearing an absolutely original and unique piece of jewellery.

Obviously a piece of jewellery like this demands the right outfit to match it. Il Baco da Seta (Via Vittoria, 75 Tel. 06 6793907) is just the place for this. The name of this boutique means “silkworm” and here, of course, silk reigns supreme and it is worked in thousands of ways in colours that range from hemp to orange, from desert shades to Mediterranean hues. There are fascinating clothes by young designers who draw inspiration from the Orient and interpret the lines of samurai and geisha garments in a modern key. If you prefer the African style to the Orient, then pay a visit to Monies (Via Vittorai, 37) a small, chic, ethnic shop selling objects, furniture and items for home decoration inspired by the desert and safari style, and while we’re on the subject, pop into Exante Due at number 13 in the same street, where you’ll enjoy choosing really unusual pieces of costume jewellery.

Now it’s time for a coffee break or, if you want to be really fashionable, for a stylish aperitif. The “in” place is Shaki (Via Mario de’ Fiori, 29/a Tel. 06 6791694), a wine bar that has become a must for the young and trendy. It is small, but offers a great variety of teas and coffees with most unusual flavours, as well as appetizing snacks and good wine. Contemporary in style, everything here has that unmistakable designer touch, from the cups and plates to the glasses and napkins. If there is something that takes your fancy and you’d like to buy it, you can find it at the Shaki shop not far away in Piazza di Spagna (no. 65 Tel. 06 6786605).

We continue our itinerary through the new modish capital with a visit to the Galleria Colonna, named after the actor Alberto Sordi, which has recently reopened and become a focal point for Rome fashions. A short walk takes you to one of the latest bookstores in the Feltrinelli chain. This is a large space devoted to culture, which, as well as books and music, also has an art gallery that mounts exhibitions for young up-and-coming artists, photographers and sculptors, and a music bar where live jazz or blues is played at every Sunday brunch.

If you love technology and all the latest high-tech inventions, you’ll find two original shops in the Galleria Colonna. Tech it Easy has all the craziest and funniest designer electronic gadgets in circulation, and Sony Gallery displays the latest novelties by this Japanese company and is a real temple of high-tech.

Do you like the way out? Then Jam is the place for you. On the Corner of the Galleria Colonna, on the Via del Corso side is a vast space on two floors selling unusual, weird, crazy clothes, objects and souvenirs that sometimes verge on the kitsch, but are absolutely unique.

Now it’s time for lunch and we recommend two restaurants in the area. At Reef (Piazza Augusto Imperatore, 40/42 Tel. 06 68301430) the sea and its habitat feature in a minimalist key and are the theme of the whole design. Entering this restaurant is like plunging into tropical seas both as regards the décor and the menu. The undulating plates of glass resemble the rippling waves of the sea, the balustrades made of iron rods are close meshed like fishing nets, even the iron seems to have been rusted by salt water. The lighting and colours all create a soft atmosphere. And the food is really sublime. Gusto (Piazza Augusto Imperatore, 9 Tel. 06 3236363), however, is something else. Apart from being a very good restaurant, wine bar and pizzeria, it also has a bookstore mainly devoted to books on gastronomy from all over the world, and a shop, so it is the ideal place for those who like to read a newspaper or book over lunch.

Now we’ll take in some art. The Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna (Via delle Belle Arti, 131 Tel. 06 322981; Tues-Sat 8.30 am – 7.30 pm, Sun 9 am – 7.30 pm) is located in the Villa Borghese, one of the loveliest parks in Rome, and has one of the most interesting 19th-century Italian Neoclassical, Romantic and Futurist painting and sculpture, as well as works by many 20th-century artists including De Chirico, Morandi and Marini. Outside the gallery is the Caffè delle Arti, the perfect place for a coffee in the open air and it is very popular especially at lunchtime. Lovers of contemporary art can visit the very new exhibition space MACRO (Via Reggio Emilia, 54 Tel. 06 67107900 www.macro.roma.museum; Tues- Sun 9 am – 7 pm, public holidays 10 am – 2 pm, Mon closed). MACRO is housed in the converted Birra Peroni factory, built at the beginning of the 20th century and has become a dynamic, cultural centre that includes six exhibition rooms, a bookstore, a lecture hall, a workshop and a bar. It has a permanent collection of works by world famous contemporary artists from the 1960s to the present, and periodically mounts temporary art exhibitions.

Now it’s time to relax before facing Roman nightlife, devote a few hours to your personal well-being and enjoy an oriental ritual. Rome too has its Hammam (La Culla del Benessere, Via della Maratona, 87 Tel. 06 36298573) and it is here that you’ll forget your daily stress and fatigue in the absolute peace and quiet of this temple of beauty. Let yourself be carried away by the magical exotic atmosphere of distant lands, surrounded by objects and ornaments from Morocco, by walls painted in Mediterranean colours, and sofas and armchairs covered in rich fabrics. An oriental doctor will make you welcome and then follows the full Turkish bath ritual including washing with black, date oil soap, gommage, a massage and to finish off a fragrant cup of mint tea. Now in top form, looking really great you are ready for the Rome nightlife. An absolute must among the very latest gourmet haunts is The Place, in the Prati neighbourhood, (Via Alberico II, 27 Tel. 06 68307137). This is a restaurant and American bar in a very minimal eclectic style, which in addition to an interesting menu with dishes from all over the world, has live music every day ranging from jazz to blues, funky and ethnic. If you prefer to go to a concert of classical or modern music check the programme of the new Auditorium della Musica (Via Pietro De Coubertin Tel. 06 8082058 or 06 80242350/1; www.musicaperroma.it), designed by Renzo Piano, another temple of design, where the acoustics, thanks to the special system of lines and shapes, is really extraordinary. And if you want a late meal, next to the Auditorium is another cult place Red (Via Pietro De Coubertin, 30 Tel. 06 80691630), this is one of the ultimate designer night spots where the red of the small mushroom-shaped armchairs and curious tables sets the tone, and where you can have dinner or simply taste the delicious snacks late into the night.

Picture the scene. You jump into your car and drive out to the nearest supermarket, maybe part of the local shopping mall. As you drive in through the gate of the car park, you notice a number of scruffy market stalls on the roadway outside the store. Who are these people? If you’ve ever been abroad to a hot, fly-ridden Third World country, you know that sometimes scroungers and beggars hang around in the street outside the expensive tourist hotels. It looks a bit like that. The market traders seem to be trying to make some money by being in the vicinity of the big shop and picking up the odd customer, the ones with enough curiosity to venture out onto the street and look at what the market traders have to offer, perhaps hoping for a bargain or some cheap imitation of the real goods inside the mall.

New internet publishing seems to look a bit like this. It appears to some as if Internet Authors are not part of the mainstream, but hanging around instead outside the smart plush offices that Traditional Publishers inhabit, trying to pick up a few customers as they go about their business, those arriving and leaving the well to do buildings, the skyscrapers that big publishing firms enjoy. That might be true on the street, but it’s certainly not true of internet bookshops. Internet Authors are finding that they face no disadvantage if they can get their books listed on a site like Amazon. As far as the customer is concerned, they find an author, and a list of books. If they order a book, they pay for it in the normal way and it is delivered to their door, just like any other book from any ‘big name’ publisher. The fact that the author might have organised the publishing of their own book for themselves, perhaps through a Print-on-demand service like Lulu, well, it’s not apparent. The Internet Author is being considered on the same terms as any other writer. It’s as if these upstarts have somehow managed to sneak into the bookstore in the mall and insert their books onto the shelves of the well known bookshops there. Well, no, that hasn’t happened yet, (although book stores can order Internet Authors’ work off the net
