No material things can equal the happiness of a couple brought about by having a baby at home. Knowing that your bundle of joy is coming calls for a celebration. You want to announce to the whole world that you will become parents soon and you can do it by organizing a baby shower.

Preparing for a baby shower will show how creative you can be. Here are some fun theme ideas which you can adopt in planning a baby shower.

Fairytale Theme

Having a fantasy-like theme is fun and interesting especially if you make it colorful. If you are expecting for a baby girl, you can either go for Cinderella or Snow White. For a boy, Peter Pan would be the best pick.

Baby Bottles Theme

You can have baby bottles of different sizes to decorate the place. You can use them for centerpiece and containers for game prizes. Having a giant baby bottle can also be an interesting idea.

Teddy Bear Theme

Teddy bears will always be a safe choice, as everyone loves it. You do not have to spend much in buying new ones. You can pull out your old but presentable teddies to decorate the room. You can have small teddy bears as prizes for games.

Diaper Theme

Having a diaper theme for your baby shower is quite a unique one. You can have cutouts of various styles of diapers to decorate the room. You will also expect to receive bundles of diapers as gifts from your guests. This will save you on buying diapers for several months.

Nursery Rhyme Theme

Putting famous nursery rhymes on your invitations can be fun. You can also put pictures, together with nursery rhyme lines for decorations to make the room nice and colorful. Some of the nursery rhymes, which you may include are Humpty Dumpty, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Little Bo Beep, Hickory Dickory Duck and the like.

Themes for Twins

If you are expecting for baby twins, you can adopt the Noah’s ark concept where animals come in two when lodging the ark. You should inform your guests through your invitations that you are expecting for a twin so that they will bring two gifts for the babies.

Color Themes

For a baby girl, the most common choice of color is pink while blue for a boy. If you are not yet sure if your baby will be a boy or a girl, you may choose neutral colors like green, yellow or orange. Adding some ribbons and some baby stuff decorations will make the place more interesting.

Organizing a baby shower can be fun by choosing an interesting theme. There should be coordination from the invitations, room decorations, and giveaways down to the food that will be served. And you can achieve this coordination by having a theme.

Nursery Rhymes have been taught to children for hundreds of years, with many dating from the Middle Ages. They are the earliest educational tools that children use for learning language and counting skills. Additionally they combine movement and music teaching kids rhythm and melody.

But according to a recent study more than 40% of parents cannot recite a single nursery rhyme all the way through.

Many cultures around the world have their own indigenous nursery rhymes but most of the best known rhymes are from England and more recently the US.

Many nursery rhymes were originally political commentaries from a time when free speech was punishable by imprisonment or even death, especially if you criticized the government of the day.

Other rhymes allude to current events of the day. It is believed that Ring a Ring O’ Roses refers to the bubonic plague, while Remember Remember commemorates the Gun Powder Plot when Guy Fawkes and a group of conspirators attempted to blow up the houses of Parliament, an event that is still celebrated in England on November 5!

Some Nursery Rhymes are quite violent –

Rock A Bye Baby

Rock a Bye Baby
On the tree top,
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock
When the bough breaks
The cradle will fall
Down will come Cradle
Baby and all.

Or

Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill
Went up a hill
To fetch a pail of water

Jack fell down
And broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after

The earliest known collection of nursery rhymes was Tommy Thumb’s Pretty Song Book, published in London, in 1744. But, probably the most well known was Mother Goose’s Melody: or Sonnets for the Cradle, published by John Newberry in 1781. Reprinted in the United States in 1785 by Isaiah Thomas, its popularity is attested to by the fact that these verses are still commonly called “Mother Goose Rhymes” in the United States.

Although you may feel that you should try and rewrite some of the lyrics to make them less violent you shouldn’t. Psychoanalysts and educators believe that efforts to make nursery rhymes and fairy tales politically correct are a mistake. They feel that they provide a way to symbolically resolve issues and allow children to imaginatively deal with violence and danger.

Go to the library or your local bookstore and buy a book of Nursery Rhymes, or download some from the Internet. Then, by teaching your children Nursery Rhymes and acting out the movements with them you’ll have fun, while teaching them language and counting at the same time as playing, building a bond and burning energy.

Ever wonder how the nursery rhymes were made and what is the message behind each rhyme? It bothered me a lot since I’ve been singing Jack and Jill, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and so much more to my year old son. Mothers should be knowledgeable and should know what they sing to their kids. Nursery Rhymes are not just a bunch of words to make our children fall asleep at night, they actually teach us a bit of history.

Nursery rhymes are traditional poems and songs taught to young children. Learning different Nursery Rhymes can aid in the development of vocabulary and counting skills. Nursery Rhymes encourage children to appreciate music.

Here are some of the Most Famous Nursery Rhymes and their history:

Jack and Jill Went Up The Hill

Published in1795, the poem originated in France. Jack and Jill are said to be King Louis XVI, who lost his crown (beheaded) and his Queen Marie Antoinette who according to the poem came tumbling after. The poem was revised for it to be acceptable for children and to provide a happy ending! The beheading of the real Jack and Jill was during the Reign of Terror in 1793.

London Bridge Is Falling Down

The London Bridge is falling down Nursery rhyme is actually about a famous landmark in London. The London Bridge was originally built from wood and clay and was rebuilt with the different materials that are also mentioned in the nursery rhyme. Some of the disasters that struck the bridge were Viking invaders and fire.

Humpty Dumpy

Would you believe Humpty Dumpy was actually a large cannon? It was a war cannon used during the English Civil War. In 1648 a town called Colchester was town with a castle, numerous churches and was protected by a wall. Right across the city wall is the church of St Mary’s and a large cannon, called Humpty Dumpy, was intentionally placed on the wall right beside St Mary’s Church.

Rain Rain Go Away

The origin of “Rain rain go away” dates back to Queen Elizabeth I, who was one of the English Tudor monarchs. During this time, Spain and England was in constant rival. The Spanish Armada was sent to invade England but was defeated. Only 65 Spanish galleons and just 10,000 men returned to Spain. The failure was blamed not only because of how the smaller English ships fought but also by the stormy weather which scattered the Armada fleet.

These are just some of the famous Nursery Rhymes that I sing to my son. Remember, the next time you sing a lullaby or a rhyme to your kids, make sure that you tell them a little about how the rhyme got its name.

When playing any musical instrument, you need to learn how to play the notes. If you want to play any instrument, you have to have one and this is especially true if you want to play a guitar. The notes are played on the guitar’s fret board. Learn to play guitar notes now and you too can conquer the guitar’s fret board.

You don’t have to be scared of the fret board. Even if it seems that it’s hard to learn the notes, if you really want to learn how to play the guitar, this should not discourage you.

Playing the very first songs on your guitar will be easier if you know the notes on the first guitar string. On this string, there are three notes – E, F (first fret), and G (third fret). The second string is B, C (first fret), and D (third fret). Now that you know the notes, you have to conduct some exercises. Slowly play these notes and make sure that you concentrate to learn notes well.

You don’t have to say all the notes out loud when you’re practicing. You can do this inside your mind and then slowly play them. You must know the notes as well as their names, and most especially their sounds. Know them by heart. You can start by playing simply melodies like that of nursery rhymes.

After mastering the notes on the first two strings, you have to proceed on the third string. G is the open string and the other note is A (second fret). When you know these notes already, start playing them together with the other notes you’ve learned previously. Again, you must stick with simple songs. You don’t have to work on all the notes at once. Try to master each of the notes and learn them consciously. Even small children can learn guitar notes easily. Follow these steps and in no time, you can play the notes on the guitar.

Learning to play guitar notes will be very hard if you don’t have your own guitar. You can’t depend entirely on the music sheets that you have. You have to hear the notes being played on the guitar’s fret board. Many beginners fail to learn because they don’t have guitars on their hands. Once you learn the notes, you can now read advanced music guitar sheets.

Everyone knows nursery rhymes and even if you’re all grown up, you still know these songs. It will be a lot easier to learn the notes by using these simple songs. Once you master and memorize the notes, you can now play the songs that you like.

Guitar notes are not really hard to learn as long as you know what to do. You don’t need an expert teacher in order to learn these things. You can teach yourself these note lessons by using DVD programs or internet guitar programs. You can also use an instruction book. Still, if you can afford the expensive guitar teachers, you can always hire them. But let this serve as a reminder, no matter how good your teacher is, if you don’t have the right attitude in learning, you will not learn anything.

You see, guitar playing is like the lessons that you learn in school. You must know the notes by heart, you have to be motivated and you must be persistent.

Who else wants to learn to play guitar and play like The Eagles, Green Day, Pink Floyd, Guns’N Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Eric Clapton, The Beatles and more ?

That’s right – you can learn how to play guitar using free lessons, step by step instructions, tutorials, jam tracks and famous songs, please visit : FREE Guitar Lessons

Why Develop The Habit Of Reading Early?

Research in the last decade has shown that when  parents read  to their children, especially when they were babies, these children tend to read earlier and are more avid readers later in school. As parents of young children, we should all strive to achieve the positive effects of reading aloud to children by reading to our children for at least 20 minutes a day. Twenty minutes equates to approximately 2 – 4 stories, depending on the reading level of the child. The good news is this 20 minutes of reading time can be cumulative, which means it can be broken up through out the day – 5 minutes here, or 10 minutes there.

Further studies also indicate that students with higher reading scores were more likely to report they had encyclopedias, magazines, newspapers and at least 25 books in their home. Having books and magazines at home is important. But how do you know what books to choose for your child? Here are some tips for getting good books for young children of all ages.

How To Choose Books For Babies And Young Children

Some books help children build morals and confidence as they join in with a repeated rhyme. Others jump-start the imagination with tales about talking animals or an aunt who flies. Books about familiar objects, people, and events are reassuring to young children, while books with unfamiliar topics can excite them about new ideas and places.

Where To Get Books

Children’s books can be expensive and children tend to outgrow even their favorite books quite quickly.  You should consider borrowing books from the public library to start with. Many libraries now offer board books for infants and toddlers plus picture books for preschoolers. Garage sales and sales conducted by libraries are good sources of inexpensive books. Or you can organize a book exchange in your neighborhood or preschool so children can trade books. Discount stores, bookstores and Internet book sellers all have bargain sections or run specials. Your parent educator or librarian may also have suggestions for sources of inexpensive or free books in your area.  It does not have to cost an arm an leg to start baby learning to read.

Where To Keep Books

Your children’s precious books should be kept in a place that is easily accessible for them.  Shelves should not be too high up or easily reachable with a stool.  You may wish to buy a small bookcase where they can be proudly displayed.  Nothing is more gratifying to a child then having them choose the book they want you to read and this decision is made simpler if they are neatly placed at their eye-level. Having a large cardboard box that the child is allowed to decorate with artwork or doodling is  another option. Although you may want only those books with hardcover in such a box to avoid serious damage.

What Makes A Good Book

Good stories with interesting characters and a plot with lots of action also appeal to preschoolers, whereas babies and toddlers are interested in books with just a few words on the page or ones that label objects in the pictures. Choose books for all ages that picture people with a variety of cultures, races, physical abilities or occupations.

When To Give A Book

You don’t have to wait for Christmas or Birthdays  for a new book! But where an occasion calls for a gift, give a book instead. Encourage your child to choose a book as a souvenir on a family trip. Encourage aunts, uncles, grandparents or other relatives to help build your child’s personal library.  If possible allow the giver to have the pleasure of reading the book to your child for the first time. Buy books as gifts for baby showers, children’s birthday parties, or holiday gifts. No matter when you give your child a book, you are helping build a love of reading.

Characteristics Of Good Books

Books for babies to 1 year:

Thick cardboard pages Pages with different textures for feel (cloth, smooth, rough) Small, chunky format Simple, bright pictures or photos Few large  words on a page Themes that encourage sounds (farm animals, vehicles, etc.)

Books for toddlers and twos:

Cardboard or thick paper pages Repetition of words or phrases Colorful pictures to enhance story A story told in a few, simple words Nursery rhymes or rhyming words Stories about familiar, everyday things Simple concepts like colors or shapes

Books for preschoolers:

Increasingly more complicated stories Stories about different cultures and places Folktales Stories about issues children face (fears, separation, starting school) Rhyming text or poetry Humorous plots or characters Non-fiction subjects Color, letter or number themes

So start the happy childhood experience of reading to your baby or child.  Your baby will love to hear the familiar voice of mummy or daddy even if he or she may not understand the story.  For older children, there are few bonding experiences, that are both educational and emotionally rewarding, that will leave such a lasting impact on a child’s development.
