Little Kitchen contain’s 40 scrumptious and simple things in which any child can make!

All these tasty recipes are fun and are aimed specifically at kids, with her easy to understand instructions and beautiful photographs of each finished meal or snack.

Your own little apprentice cook will be introduced to a wide range of recipes both savory and sweet. Included in Little Kitchen are quick after school snacks, dinners to get on the right side of mum and dad and sweet treats for the times that your child deserves a reward. Little Kitchen is truly a great first recipe book to set your expiring chef on the right track of healthy cooking and eating habits.

It all began at a very young age for Sabrina Parrini, her earliest and fondest memory is of her cooking gnocchi in her grandma’s backyard, surrounded by a vegetable garden and a wood fire oven. Then when Sabrina was working as an early childhood teacher she became inspired in the classroom kitchen to create Little Kitchen. Her aim was to teach more children about how important it is for them to cook and eat good food.

Down the track Sabrina established her cookware range and her children’s cookery establishment so that she could continue to nurture the growing enthusiasm that was showing in her students in her pre-school kitchen. This is how Little Kitchen’s fun and friendly cook book came about. These are her favourite recipes she that she has shared with her class.

“It takes time and patience to let young children into your kitchen. It is often quicker and easier to do things yourself. But if you take the time to encourage children to cook from an early age there are plenty of rewards for parents and carers in the long run.” Sabrina Parrini

“The recipes in the Little Kitchen cookbook are proper recipes – not just biscuits, cakes and snacks – so that children can learn how to cook proper meals.”
Sabrina Parrini

The last quote from Sabrina herself, really hits the nail on the head as to why this children’s cookbook is a stand out. Let your kids have fun cooking and at the same time giving them valuable tools for later life, so that they stay fit and healthy.

You may also get some time off in the kitchen too!! :-)

‘Now what about a big bear kiss for me?’ said Dad? ‘No!’ said Baby Bear. ‘No kiss for Daddy.’ ‘Oh dear,’ said Daddy, carrying Baby Bear up the stairs.

‘How about a koala kiss instead? Baby koalas give their daddies cuddly, clingy kisses, like this’

When a tired and grumpy Baby Bear refuses to give his father a goodnight kiss, their bedtime routine turns into an enchanting game. Daddy tried to get his bedtime kiss by showing Baby Bear the different ways in which other baby animals kiss their dads. The pictures are great as to the imagination of the story.

This affectionate, demonstrative story is just the thing for children and their dads to share!

People have called Todd Parr’s books, “cheerful, kindhearted, refreshing and reassuring”, and I am sure you will say the same.

If anyone out there still is not quite sure, than you will be glad that Todd Parr has brought out another great book to tell us that it is okay to be different! Displaying his unique artistic style, which is bright, colourful, childlike figures which are outlined in thick black lines. Todd Parr proves time and time again that just about anything goes.

Todd has become well known for his modern upbeat titles such as Things That Make You Feel Good, Things That Make You Feel Bad, This Is My Hair, Underwear Do’s and Don’ts. Characters with smiling faces, bold and brilliant colours teamed with positive and cheerful words, this picture book author, Todd Parr is now showing us that it’s okay to be different.

Todd Parr touches on disabilities, same-sex parents or step-families and he is wise enough that he does not zero in on the specifics of a situation, for that would force him to state what is normal. Instead his approach focuses on acceptance and people being individuals and this encourages young readers to do the same.

I particularly like the closing messages which say that you are special and important just for being yourself. Text is complimented with multicultural illustrations, mixtures of blue, brown, green, yellow and purple faces. His quirky artworks combined with his eternally optimistic book titles are just irresistible for the young readers and the parents, which makes bedtime stories enjoyable for everyone.

He has touched on some sensitive subjects such as his book called “It’s okay to be adopted” to silly things like “It’s okay to eat macaroni and cheese in the bathtub”. With kids from any background, family makeup, of every shape, size and colour will have the feeling of inclusion in these tender and humorous books.

Living in San Francisco, Todd Parr enjoys painting because it makes him feel good. Maybe that will be his next book title! His previous books have been applauded by critics from all over the world, for their ‘amusing, clever, reassuring, whimsical and upbeat outlook.

It’s Okay to be Different is a playful celebration of diversity without making it obvious.

If you want the whole collection you may want to keep your eye out for Todd’s other titles like;

  • It’s okay to be adopted
  • It’s okay to need some help
  • It’s okay to be a different colour
  • It’s okay to wear glasses
  • It’s okay to dance by yourself

‘The Night Before Christmas’ is a lovely Christmas poem fitted onto 26 wonderful pages. This will be a great gift for any child or grandchild. It depicts a warm and friendly Santa with his reindeers and sleigh.

This Christmas poem is as everyone says ‘Timeless’. Read the poem below and you will see what I mean.

You could just read the following out to your child :)   but reading along with the beautiful pictures in this book, makes it all that more special.

The Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And Mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap; When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny rein-deer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; “Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!” As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky; So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of Toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back, And he look’d like a pedlar just opening his pack. His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlfull of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And fill’d all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, Merry Christmas And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”
