Indeed. Even just Elena and Stefan are waaaaaay different than Edward and Bella. They’re both good series (I don’t like the Twilight movie though.) and there’s no sense in arguing about it.

It seems that SM changed just enough in her books to get away with ripping of LJ Smith, and no twaddle about how the settings and characters are “so different” can change that. A painting of a still from a movie is still ripping off the movie, and is still copyright infringement. While SM’s books may be decently written and enjoyable for those who like them, it does not change the fact that she plagiarized someone else’s idea and is capitalizing on it.
I read the twilight series before vampire diaries, and I thought it was a good story; the writing could have been better but don’t get me wrong and im a big twilight fan and now a big vampire diaries fan. both are great and I completely agree with “the more the merrier” statement!
i agree completely with you. i read all of Lj smith books and i found many similarities. but vampire diaries is definetly better. In my opinion, bella has NO personallity what so ever. shes weak, whiny, horny( if youve read eclipes). I find her a GREAT rip-off of Daughters of Darkness’s Mary-lynnette, which is also by the amazing LJ smith. Both girls are in love with a vampire and a wearwolf. Both girls are 17, brunnette, shy, divorced parents, smart. basicly, all of lj’s books were sm’s source
i read all 4 twilight books AND The Vampire diaries books. i read twilight before an thought it was OKAY. then i read 15 (haha yes 15) lj smith books. and i swear EVERY SINGLE book had a similarity to twilight. Night World had SO MANY similarities ex: in daughters of darkness( 2nd in night world.1996)and theres a love triangle with a vampire, wearwolf and a shy brunnette, what do you say about that?
I can give a 5 page essay on the similars and differences on the two books..8 books.

i love both twilight and vampire diaires, actually the stories are very different and no sense to compare them.
i think that vampire diries may have been writtien but tiwlight is a whole different story with a different settings but sure some simularities to the charicters and vampires are some of the same in storys so you cant say they coppied the vampire diries because it wasnt the same idea

In reference to the sentence, “Although they may resemble each other in appearance, their personalities are totally different and sometimes the story line seems the same but always proves differently”, the appearances of Stefan and Elena are not described as anything similar to Edward and Bella. Because of the changes made to the tv show, they appear similar. Which may be part of the controversy. And thanks for the spelling correction, giovannavz, calling him Stephan bugged me.

The Vampire Diaries is soo much better!! I like Twilight but theirs really nothing to it. Theirs no backstoryy or anything like that, that atracts edwad to bella. The Vampire Diaries had all that and more. Plus this is just my own opinion but i’m just saying that Stephan and Elena would make such a better edward and bella they look a million times better. Plus Paul wesley is just how i imagined edward in my mind. But anyway the Vampire Diaries is wayyy beter

I’ve read the Vampire Diaries Series and the Twilight Saga, and in my opinion, Vampire Diaries is better. Twilight Saga just takes a long time to get to the meat of the book whereas Vampire Diaries has a clear plot. I loved the story of the Twilight Saga (except for Breaking Dawn) but I think it could’ve been written a lot better.
i have read the twilight books and seen the movie a gazillion times and i am now watching the vampire diares…DAMON!!! but i meen people can get over who copyed who cause they r both alot diffent and hey great minds think alike
